SIMON TRAPNELL FRSA

After graduation Simon Trapnell worked in industry for five years before resigning to be involved full-time in the establishment of ‘Nature in Art’, the worlds first museum dedicated exclusively to art inspired by nature. As director of the museum he has overseen the development of an unrivalled collection that now embraces works from 60 countries and cultures, by over 600 artists spanning 1500 years. The collection has twice been specially commended in the UK National Heritage Museum of the Year Awards amongst other accolades. Unlike many other museums, it arranges a vibrant range of art courses and an unrivalled programme of artists in residence (an average of 60 each year) together with a comprehensive programme of temporary exhibitions. As well as celebrating the achievements of the past, it works hard to bring the work of living nature-inspired artists to the attention of the public, to encourage cultural awareness and to heighten appreciation of a still under-valued genre.

Simon sits on a number of museum and arts committees and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Outside this work, he is heavily involved with a number of education, development and conservation organisations and is widely travelled. He is a keen photographer and a busy lecturer on art, environmental, conservation and travel topics.
